Apple iPod Touch - The Mini Computer That Could

The Apple iPod Touch is the next best Apple innovation since The debut of the iPhone. I am a new user to this product and I love the way the touch screen performs and the versatile user friendly applications that can be used for more than just a portable MP3 / MP4 player.

You can surf the web with the SAFARI browser as long as your near a Wi-Fi connection (802.11b/g) hotspot. I have found that the ipodtouch works great at hotels and travel centers that have a Wi-Fi hotspot to access the internet and/or get your email. The few glitches I have found that need to be addressed are: Getting apps from iTunes 8 & setting up email accounts on the iPod if you use email other than Yahoo, Gmail, .Mac or AOL which the device is already pre-configured to work with. A little fiddling is needed to add your desired email account.

Also I have discovered, since I do work on a pretty old computer. Apple iTunes 8 does not support 32bit Windows OS and is tailored to the 64bit supported OS of Safari Leopard 10.5 and Windows XP Pro, Vista ( not all of Vista OS is 64bit) . The 64Bit OS and software will be the standard in all new computers very soon. Before you buy your next new computer/laptop keep this in mind while shopping for your next set-up.

There is also a 1st generation model (MB376LL/A) and a 2nd generation (MB533LL/A) of the iPod touch in 8, 16 and 32GB configuration. You can save quite a bit on the price of a 1st generation model compared to the 2nd generation. The 1st generation can be upgraded to 2nd generation for 9.95 at the iTunes website. Which ever model you purchase, you will be thoroughly pleased with this basic mini computer that plays music, surfs the web, sends and receives email and fits in your pocket.

To clarify: the "upgrade to 2nd generation" you speak of is the upgrade to the Touch's OS, not the 2nd generation of iTouch hardware.

Thank you for your clarification. I'm sure I got a little mixed up on getting my point across. Thanx for the heads up on this post
